Gravitate with Aileen De La Cruz: Listen

Canadian born, UK based artist & songwriter Aileen de la Cruz is often found penning songs for fellow artists worldwide. With a career that started playing the piano by ear at 2 years old, she quickly developed into one of the most sought after songwriters and musicians around. This week Aileen released her latest single “Gravitate”.

Gravitate sees Aileen De La Cruz deliver an infectiously hypnotic vocal performance, drawing on old school R&B influences. Laced with soulful harmonies, the melody seamlessly intertwines with dreamy plucks and heavenly strings over a pulsing beat, driven by dirty 808’s. Gravitate talks about connection and separation. Despite two people not being together physically, Gravitate paints the picture of feeling constantly connected, as if being held together by a gravitational pull.

HR: Tell us about the concept behind Gravitate and why you felt it was important to release it now.

ADC: I chose this song first of all because it’s personal to me.  After a career of being away traveling through the years and also being away from my partner, I thought it was important to talk about acknowledging the difficulties of being separated from loved ones. But I also wanted to bring Hope. Hope knowing that love can get you through anything, no matter the challenges that come your way. I think many of us can relate to this especially now that we are in a global pandemic. Also with people losing their jobs and not knowing what’s next, I’ve seen many people turn a bad situation into a thriving passion. It reminded me to get back to my own, which was being an artist, before ever becoming a songwriter.
